My Top Five Apocalyptic Movies and Shows

Apocalyptic fiction is a genre of science fiction that is concerned with the end of civilization due to a potentially existential catastrophe such as nuclear warfare, pandemic, extraterrestrial attack, impact event, cybernetic revolt, technological singularity, dysgenics, supernatural phenomena, divine judgement, climate change, resource depletion or some other general disaster.

Why do I like Apocalyptic works? Well let me tell you. Ever since the Challenger disaster in 1986, I have come to realize that life is precious and will end at anytime. And the thought of that impending possibility is what is exciting and depressing to me. Yes, I know I have a morbid fascination with death and casualties; I laugh when someone gets hurt and if I could I would so act out the movie crash, but without bodily injuries. I am not one for serious pain.

Anyways, we are all just a little bit fascinated with the multitudes of “what-if” scenarios. If we weren’t then movies like, I am Legend, Terminator 2, 2012, Red Dawn, Mad Max or The Road Warrior and my favorite The Day After Tomorrow, would not h

ave been made. Face it, we like tragedy on a large scale. We like to see the earth puke out the villainous humans that have ruined its surface or see our creations mutilate and devour us.
Here is a list of my TOP five (5) favorite Apocalyptic Movies or TV shows and reasons why I love them. ( in to particular order)

1. The Walking Dead I am hooked on this show. I like the drama between the characters, but I also like the great scenes that contain the hacking of zombies and the tools used to do the job.
2. Shaun of the Dead, funny as hell. Simon Pegg is my new online boyfriend, right after Dwayne ‘The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesal, Chris Hemsworth and Bret Spiner.
3. Dawn of the Dead-the remake, I love the “hey look Elvis!” pop goes his head. Awesome.
4. Battlestar Galactica, yes I know its Sci-fi. So what its still the end of their know civilization.
5. Independance Day, I really loved it. I have it on DVD and watch it every 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
